FROM THE CEO’S DESK

As 2021 began, many industries and sectors were positive about an economic recovery following 2020 and the impact of the global pandemic across the world. Whilst this recovery did not materialize as anticipated and with several emerging issues preventing a return to growth, it has been an opportunity to review business models, revisit cost efficiency and look at more effective resource allocation whilst maintaining high service levels. Top of mind has been and continues to be how best to position for the recovery when it comes.

Reflecting on the opportunities and challenges of the last 12 months, I am reminded of the increasing importance of risk management and mitigation. It is now more critical than ever to evaluate how risks may impact potential for growth as we review our business processes, operations, supply chains; and continue to maximize our competitiveness.

The last two years have tested us all on many levels and resulted in significant changes in the priorities of businesses.

Sustainability, through good corporate governance and  citizenry, however, remains a key priority for AMSOL and we have strengthened our focus on ensuring ethical and transparent business practices in 2021, in line with best practice.

We have asked a lot from our workforce this year and the performance of employees at sea and ashore has resulted in the safe and successful execution of several marine projects. We are also pleased to have achieved a number of goals that support our company’s strategy in 2021:

  • AMOSL Ghana was appointed by the Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) and operates the tanker ‘Clenston’ to provide offshore bunkering services. This signals AMSOL’s expansion into the West African market.
  • The ‘Isiqalo’, contracted by Shell, is in operation in the Port of Durban and represents the company’s transition to tanker management and operations, to high international standards. This is an important milestone for AMSOL’s Fuel Logistics & Transportation Business Unit as we look towards future growth prospects.
  • The implementation of our fleet renewal strategy realised the acquisition of the modern AHTSV ‘Umkhuseli’ which is a welcome addition, strengthening AMSOL’s ability to meet the needs of our clients and ensuring a versatile service offering to ship owners, ship managers and the offshore industry.

More resilient, more focused and more agile than ever before, we remain proud of the long-term partnerships we have sustained with key clients across the Mining, Maritime, Ports and Energy sectors, of our robust supply chain of service providers and of our employees who have continued to provide clients with a world class service.

I want to thank all AMSOL stakeholders for the open engagement, collaboration and preparedness to adapt to these rapidly changing times. No doubt, 2022 will bring with it many more opportunities for us to work together in moving our industry forward.
