EFFICIENT DRYDOCKING

Regular planned maintenance is key to providing an effective technical service to vessel management clients. During March, the Environmental Research Vessel ‘Algoa’, which is managed by AMSOL on behalf of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, underwent statutory drydocking at the Robinson Drydock in the V&A Waterfront. The drydock was efficiently completed ahead of the Benthic Survey Voyage between Cape Agulhas and Mossel Bay, for which the vessel departed on the 26th of March.

Earlier this year during February, the ‘Algoa’ completed the ‘Integrated Ecosystem Programme: Southern Benguela’ voyage where they operated in the shelf and slope regions off the West Coast of South Africa. The aim of this multi-disciplinary scientific cruise was increased collaboration, enhanced learning and developing an ecosystem indicator that can be used to monitor and understand seabird and benthic ecosystem indicators.
