INVESTMENT IN FLEET EXPANSION SIGNALS MARITIME INDUSTRY GROWTH

In order to meet local demand for marine fuel logistics and transportation services, AMSOL has acquired a 5,482 DWT product tanker signaling the expansion of its tanker fleet.  The vessel, which departed the Port of Sharjah in United Arab Emirates (UAE) in September, will arrive in the Port of Durban, South Africa later this week.

The tanker, to be registered locally and flagged in South Africa, will be renamed ‘Uhambo’ (‘The Journey’), and will transport and deliver multiple grades of fuel in the local market.

AMSOL’s Chief Commercial Officer Graham Dreyden believes that the company’s ability to meet local demand highlights its depth: “The addition of ‘Uhambo’ to our fleet reflects our commitment to partnering with clients in the Energy sector; meeting stringent international standards. We are motivated to continue to develop a talent pipeline of tanker-endorsed, certificated South African seafarers and our investment reflects this commitment.”

With an all-South African crew onboard for the handover in UAE and for the delivery voyage to South Africa, the company is proud of the depth of technical expertise and competence of AMSOL seafarers. Graham notes: “It was not difficult for us to attract an experienced team of seafarers for this ‘Proudly South African’ voyage and they are excited to bring ‘Uhambo’ home.”

Of its fleet of 19 vessels, AMSOL operates 3 product tankers and 2 bunker barges, delivering bunkers to vessels in port and offshore. The company’s commitment to effective risk management ensures that these operations meet global International Oil Industry Standards, and AMSOL complies with all relevant codes and conventions, emphasizing safety and environmental protection.
