INVESTING IN FLEET MAINTENANCE STRENGTHENS OPERATIONS
To maintain the high service standards AMSOL provides to its clients, it is essential that AMSOL’s owned and managed vessels are proactively well-maintained. This is achieved through a collaborative approach between the vessel’s crew and the shore-based team, with the engine department onboard working closely with AMSOL’s Fleet Management Services team.
In 2024 alone, AMSOL has invested R100 million in drydocking and ship repair activities in South Africa, ensuring its vessels are able to continue to support critical operations. This significant investment supports the local maritime supply chain. Planning for these drydocks begins months in advance to ensure alignment amongst all parties involved, including dock management, suppliers, service providers, and subcontractors, all of whom must meet stringent SHEQ and risk management standards.
Recent projects include the drydocking of the AMSOL tugs ‘Siyakhula’ and ‘Sisonke.’ On the 13th of November, the ‘Siyakhula’ entered Dormac Dry Dock in Durban for her 5-year class renewal survey. Meanwhile, the ‘Sisonke,’ an essential asset for PetroSA’s offshore terminal operations in Mossel Bay, entered Robinson Dry Dock on the 7th of November for maintenance and renewal surveys.
