An important player – African Solutions. International Standards.

At AMSOL, the company’s strong foundation in compliance and risk management ensures that in delivering value to its clients, AMSOL meets ever increasing international standards. To support this objective, the company participates in frequent external audits and verifications, and implements best practice in technical and operational excellence.

For Managing Director Paul Maclons, this commitment is an important part of a competitive AMSOL value proposition to clients: “As a South African owned and managed company operating on the continent, it’s our ability to maintain high standards whilst working in high risk marine environments that sets us apart. Irrespective of the geographical location of our operations, we are able to offer our clients the world class service they require – supported by a commitment to localisation.”

AMSOL holds several key accreditations and certifications which support this focus on sustainability.

  • ISO 9001 Certification for Quality Management Systems;
  • ISO 14001 Certification for Environmental Management;
  • International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) membership;
  • International Ship Management (ISM);
  • International Ship and Port Security (ISPS);
  • Maritime Labour Convention Compliance – Crewing Agency Certified;
  • Class Approval – Lloyds, Bureau Veritas (BV), China Classification Society (CCS), Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and American Bureau of Standards (ABS).

In June, AMSOL completed the annual verification audits to the ISO 9001:2008 (Quality Management System) and ISO 14001:2004 (Environmental Management System) standards. The company is currently transitioning its Management System to the revised standards – ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 – with the goal to achieve certification within the next 6 months.

For the team at AMSOL, it is all about offering clients a competitive value proposition, with the assurance that risk management and mitigation is at the core of the business. “We are due to complete a third-party audit process to achieve OHSAS 18001:2011 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System). This year we have also focused on completing ISO and OHSAS awareness training courses at our offices in Cape Town, Mossel Bay and Durban in South Africa to ensure that employees understand the requirements of these standards,” notes SHEQ Officer Marius Pieterse.

In line with AMSOL’s values, the company’s approach to sustainability reflects its commitment to continuous improvement. This is a focus of key business processes relating to operations, procurement, vessel maintenance and management, people, safety, health and quality management and environmental protection.

SHEQ & Compliance Manager Terry Leisegang believes a proactive approach to environmental management is essential:

“The certification process demonstrates the company’s commitment to quality and environmental management systems as well as our determination to provide solutions that not only enhance our service to clients but also ensure that we protect our people, assets, equipment and the environment.”
